Every digital and creative trade
Pick the kind of work to see its services, what to put in your task and what to agree before you start.
Before you hire: agree who owns what is made
In Irish law the person who makes a website, a design, a text or a photograph owns its copyright unless they made it as an employee, and paying for it does not move that ownership: an assignment is effective only in writing, signed by the creator (Copyright and Related Rights Act 2000, sections 23 and 120).
So agree it in writing before you accept an offer: whether you get the copyright or a licence, and for which uses; that the source files, logins and accounts are handed over in your name at the end; and, where you share anything sensitive, that it is kept confidential.
