Presentation design: what the job involves
Designing presentation decks — pitch decks, sales presentations, conference talks, reports and company templates — in PowerPoint, Keynote or Google Slides, so the message is clear and the slides look consistent. Some designers also help shape the story and the text.
Also asked for as: PowerPoint designer · pitch deck design · Google Slides design · investor deck · PowerPoint template
How the job is usually done
- Agree the purpose, audience, number of slides, software and deadline
- Collect the content: text, figures, charts, photos and the brand guide
- Agree the storyline and slide structure, if that is part of the job
- Design a few sample slides to set the look, and get them approved
- Design the full deck, building charts and diagrams from the data supplied
- Revise within the agreed rounds and check every figure and spelling
- Deliver the editable file, a PDF and a master template if agreed
Presentation design: what is included
Usually included
- Design of the agreed number of slides
- Charts and diagrams redrawn from the customer’s data
- An agreed number of revision rounds
- The editable presentation file and a PDF
Usually not included — agree it separately
- Writing the content or the script, unless agreed
- Research and checking the accuracy of figures supplied by the customer
- Complex animation or video
- Speaker coaching
- Licences for fonts not available in the presentation software
Materials and who supplies them
- Content, data and photos — supplied by the customer
- Brand guide, logo and fonts — supplied by the customer
- Stock images and icons — licensed by the designer for the job, or by the customer
How long it takes
A short deck usually takes a few days to a week; a large sales deck or a company template system takes two to four weeks, and unfinished content is the most common delay.
When to book
Brief the designer at least a week before the presentation, and leave a day for a final run-through on the computer you will present from.
Presentation design: the rules in Ireland
What the official sources say, checked against them on the date shown. A summary, not legal advice — follow the link to read the rule itself.
Copying or adapting a work without the licence of its copyright owner infringes the copyright. Stock photographs, illustrations, icons and fonts used in a design are somebody else’s work: they are used under the licence the designer or the customer bought, and that licence sets where, how often and for how long they may be used.
Applies to: the designer, and the customer who publishes the work
Copyright and Related Rights Act 2000, section 37 · irishstatutebook.ie · Checked 10 October 2026
The author of a work — here the designer or illustrator — is the first owner of its copyright. The exception is an employee working in the course of employment, whose employer owns it. Paying a freelancer or a studio for the work does not by itself move the copyright to the customer.
Applies to: the designer, and the customer who commissions the work
Copyright and Related Rights Act 2000, section 23 · irishstatutebook.ie · Checked 10 October 2026
An assignment of copyright, in whole or in part, is not effective unless it is in writing and signed by or on behalf of the person assigning it. If you need to own the design outright — to register it as a trade mark, to change it freely or to stop anyone else using it — get a signed written assignment, not just an invoice.
Applies to: the designer, and the customer who wants to own the work

What presentation design costs, and why
What jobs on Talqero came to
Not enough comparable jobs yet to publish a range here. Talqero shows a price range only once at least five comparable jobs, agreed prices or offers exist — a range from fewer would describe a handful of jobs, not the market. Post your job and compare the offers you get.
What affects the price
- Number of slides and how much each must be built from scratch
- Whether the storyline and text are included
- Charts, diagrams, infographics and animation
- A reusable master template for the team, or a one-off deck
- The deadline
What you should get at the end
- The editable deck in the agreed software, with fonts that open on the customer’s computers
- A PDF version for sending and printing
- A master template with layouts, if agreed
- Licence details of stock images, icons and fonts used
What the provider should hand over
- Deliver the editable deck and PDF, tested on the customer’s software
- Show the customer how to use the master layouts if a template was made
- Delete or return confidential material when the job ends, if agreed
Safety
- Share only what the designer needs: remove confidential financial or customer data from material sent for design, or agree confidentiality in writing
- Check that the fonts are available on every computer that will show the deck, or the layout will break on the day
- Check every number in the final deck yourself — the designer lays out the data, but you are responsible for it
Presentation design: before you hire
Questions to ask before you hire
- Will I be able to edit the deck myself afterwards?
- Will it work with the fonts and software on our computers?
- Do you help with the story and wording, or design only?
- How many rounds of changes are included?
What you can do yourself
Using your company template consistently, with one idea per slide and fewer words, fixes most presentations; hire a designer for pitches, tenders and a company template.
What to put in your task
- What is the presentation for?
- Roughly how many slides?
- Which software will you present from?
- Is the content written?
- When is the presentation?
Photos that help
- Your current deck or draft content
- Your brand guide, logo and fonts
- The data behind the charts, as a spreadsheet
- Presentations whose style you like

Questions about presentation design
Does presentation design need a licence in Ireland?
No licence is required for this work in Ireland (source: www.irishstatutebook.ie). Ask instead for references and photographs of similar jobs.
Can the designer write the pitch for me?
Some can, but many design only. Shaping the story and writing the text is separate work, so say if you need it. You remain responsible for the accuracy of what the deck claims.
Why does my deck look different on another computer?
Usually because a font is missing and the software swaps it for another. Ask the designer to use fonts that come with the software, embed them where possible, or install the brand fonts on every machine.
Is a template worth it?
For a team that makes presentations often, yes: a master template with ready layouts keeps every deck on brand and saves time. For a single pitch, a one-off design is usually enough.
