Hiring a photographer or videographer in Ireland
Photography and video are shot on location or in a studio and edited afterwards, so the shoot is local and the editing can happen anywhere. Agree the number of finished images or the length of the video, the formats and the delivery date before the day.
The photographer owns the copyright in the photographs unless it is assigned in writing, so agree the licence or assignment and the uses it covers. Anybody flying a drone for the shoot must be registered with the Irish Aviation Authority.

Photography and video: rules and grants in Ireland
The rules in Ireland
Most photography and video needs no licence, but flying a drone does: the operator must be registered with the Irish Aviation Authority, and the remote pilot needs the competency for the category flown.
- Drone operators in Ireland register with the Irish Aviation Authority, under the EU drone rules; the registration number is shown on the drone.
- Remote pilots need the training and competency the IAA sets for the category they fly in, and some areas are restricted geographic zones.
- Ask for the operator registration number and check it with the IAA before the shoot.

Not enough comparable jobs yet to publish a range here. Talqero shows a price range only once at least five comparable jobs, agreed prices or offers exist — a range from fewer would describe a handful of jobs, not the market. Post your job and compare the offers you get.
What affects the price
- Time on location and travel to it
- The number of finished images, or the length of the video
- Editing, retouching, music and captions
- The licence or assignment, and the uses it covers
- Drone work, studio hire, props or a second shooter
How long it usually takes
- A shoot: hours to a day on location.
- Edited photos or video: usually days to a few weeks afterwards.
What to ask before you choose
- Will you assign the copyright in what you make to me in writing, or give me a written licence — and for which uses?
- What will you hand over at the end: source files, code, logins and accounts, in my own name?
- Will you keep what I share with you confidential, and agree that in writing?
- How many edited images, or how long a video, and in which formats?
- For drone work: what is your IAA operator registration number?
