Google Business Profile: what the job involves
Setting up, verifying and keeping up a Google Business Profile — the listing that shows on Google Maps and in local search with your hours, photos, services and reviews. For most local businesses in Ireland it is the first thing a customer sees.
Also asked for as: Google My Business · get my business on Google Maps · Google listing · Google reviews · verify Google business
How the job is usually done
- Check whether a profile already exists, and claim or create it in the owner’s Google account
- Verify the business with Google, by the method Google offers
- Complete every field: category, services, service area or address, hours, Eircode, phone, website and description
- Add good photos of the work, premises, team and vehicles
- Set up a simple way to ask real customers for reviews, and reply to reviews
- Post updates and offers, and keep hours up to date for bank holidays
- Report on views, calls, direction requests and website visits
Google Business Profile: what is included
Usually included
- Claiming or creating and verifying the profile
- Completing the profile fully and accurately
- Uploading supplied photos
- A review request link and reply templates
Usually not included — agree it separately
- Professional photography, unless agreed
- Ongoing posting and review replies, unless a monthly service is agreed
- Removing genuine negative reviews — only Google decides removals under its policies
- Writing, buying or swapping reviews — never acceptable and prohibited by law
Materials and who supplies them
- The owner’s Google account, which owns the profile
- Photos of the business and work — supplied by the customer, or a photographer
- Accurate business details: name, address or service area, Eircode, hours and services
How long it takes
Set-up usually takes a few hours of work, but Google’s verification can take from a few days to a few weeks; ongoing management is a little time each week.
When to book
Update holiday hours before Christmas, Easter and every bank holiday — wrong hours are one of the most common complaints.
Google Business Profile: the rules in Ireland
What the official sources say, checked against them on the date shown. A summary, not legal advice — follow the link to read the rule itself.
It is a prohibited practice in all circumstances to submit, or commission anyone to submit, false consumer reviews or endorsements, or to misrepresent reviews or social endorsements, to promote products — and to claim reviews come from real customers without taking reasonable steps to check that they do.
Applies to: the business, and any agency or freelancer it hires
Consumer Protection Act 2007, section 55(1)(za) and (zb), inserted by the Consumer Rights Act 2022, section 157 · irishstatutebook.ie · Checked 10 October 2026
An ad, listing or post is a misleading commercial practice if it gives false information, or is likely to deceive the average consumer, about matters such as the product’s main characteristics, the results to be expected, the price or the trader, and it would change their decision.
Applies to: the business advertising, and anyone acting in its name
Consumer Protection Act 2007, section 43; Competition and Consumer Protection Commission · irishstatutebook.ie · Checked 10 October 2026
What google business profile costs, and why
What jobs on Talqero came to
Not enough comparable jobs yet to publish a range here. Talqero shows a price range only once at least five comparable jobs, agreed prices or offers exist — a range from fewer would describe a handful of jobs, not the market. Post your job and compare the offers you get.
What affects the price
- New profile, claiming an existing one, or fixing a suspended one
- Number of locations
- Photos and description to be produced
- Ongoing posts and review replies each month
What you should get at the end
- Confirmation that the profile is owned by the business owner’s Google account, with the provider as a manager only
- The review request link and a short guide to replying to reviews
- A record of the details entered on the profile
- Monthly reports from the profile’s performance data, if ongoing
What the provider should hand over
- Show the owner how to reply to reviews and update hours
- Give them the review link to share with customers
- Remove your manager access if the work has ended
Safety
- Make sure the owner of the profile is your own Google account; the provider should be added as a manager and removed at the end
- Never post, buy or swap reviews, or offer customers rewards for positive ones only: fake reviews are prohibited in Ireland and Google can remove reviews or suspend the profile
- Use the real business name — adding keywords or town names to it is against Google’s guidelines and can get the profile suspended
Google Business Profile: before you hire
Questions to ask before you hire
- Will the profile be owned by my Google account?
- How will you get more genuine reviews?
- What will you do each month, if ongoing?
- How do you handle unfair or fake reviews from others?
What you can do yourself
Most owners can set up and verify a profile themselves in an afternoon; the value of help is in completing it well and keeping it active.
What to put in your task
- What is the state of your profile now?
- How many locations do you have?
- Do customers come to you, or do you go to them?
- Do you want ongoing posts and review replies?
Photos that help
- A link to your current Google listing, if there is one
- Photos of your work, premises, team and vehicles
- Your logo and a cover photo
- Your exact business name, Eircode, hours and list of services

Questions about google business profile
Does google business profile need a licence in Ireland?
No licence is required for this work in Ireland (source: www.irishstatutebook.ie). Ask instead for references and photographs of similar jobs.
Can someone remove a bad review?
Only Google can remove a review, and only if it breaks Google’s policies, for example spam or a conflict of interest. Anyone can flag a review, but nobody can promise its removal. A calm, polite public reply usually does more good.
Can I ask friends to leave reviews, or pay for them?
No. Submitting or commissioning false reviews or endorsements is a prohibited practice under Irish consumer law, and Google’s policies ban fake engagement. Ask your real customers instead, after a job is done.
Do I have to show my home address?
No. If you travel to customers and do not serve them at your address, you can set up a service-area profile that hides the address and shows the areas you cover instead.
