Landing page: what the job involves

A single web page built for one aim, such as bookings for a course, enquiries from an ad campaign or a product launch, with a clear message, one call to action and a form or button. It is usually built quickly and measured against the campaign it supports.

Also asked for as: landing page design · one page website · page for my ads · sales page · squeeze page

How the job is usually done

  1. Agree the one goal of the page, the audience and where the visitors will come from.
  2. Gather the offer, text, images and any testimonials, or agree who writes them.
  3. Design the page layout around the call to action, for phones first.
  4. Build the page with the form or booking button, and connect it to email or the business’s systems.
  5. Add consent for any tracking or ad pixels, the privacy notice and business details.
  6. Test the form, speed and layout on phones, then go live and check the first enquiries arrive.

Landing page: what is included

Usually included

  • Design and build of one page
  • An enquiry or booking form, or a link to an existing booking system
  • Connecting the form to email or a mailing list

Usually not included — agree it separately

  • Writing sales copy, unless quoted
  • Running the ads that send visitors to the page
  • A/B testing over several weeks, unless agreed
  • Hosting and domain, if separate from an existing site

Materials and who supplies them

  • Offer details, text, photos and logo, supplied by the business
  • Landing page builder or hosting subscription, if used, in the business’s name

How long it takes

Usually a few days to a couple of weeks, depending on whether the text is ready and how many integrations the form needs.

When to book

Build the page before the campaign starts, so the form and tracking can be tested with a few real visitors first.

Landing page: the rules in Ireland

  • Cookies and similar trackers that are not strictly necessary, analytics included, may be set only after the visitor consents, with clear information about their purposes. The Data Protection Commission expects a reject option as prominent as accept, no pre-ticked boxes, and consent renewed after no more than six months.

What landing page costs, and why

What jobs on Talqero came to

Not enough comparable jobs yet to publish a range here. Talqero shows a price range only once at least five comparable jobs, agreed prices or offers exist — a range from fewer would describe a handful of jobs, not the market. Post your job and compare the offers you get.

What affects the price

  • Whether the text and images are ready or must be written
  • Built on the existing site, on a landing page builder or from scratch
  • Form integrations: mailing list, CRM, booking or payments
  • Tracking and ad pixels to set up with consent
  • Number of versions for testing

What you should get at the end

  • Logins for the page and any builder account, in the business’s name
  • Written assignment of copyright or a licence for the design
  • A note of what the form connects to and where enquiries go

What the provider should hand over

  • Hand over logins and a note of the form connections
  • Show the owner where to see enquiries and results

Safety

  • Collect only the details you need on the form, and say what you will do with them.
  • Do not add people who enquire to a marketing list unless they have agreed to it.

Landing page: before you hire

Questions to ask before you hire

  • Will the page load quickly on a phone?
  • Where will enquiries go, and will I get a copy?
  • Is the tracking set up with proper cookie consent?
  • Can I change the text myself afterwards?

What you can do yourself

Many website builders and email tools include landing page templates a business can fill in itself; the cookie consent and privacy notice still need to be in place.

What to put in your task

  • What should visitors do on the page?
  • Where will visitors come from?
  • Is the text for the page written?
  • Should the page sit on your existing website?

Photos that help

  • The ad, flyer or email that will link to the page
  • Your logo and any brand guidelines
  • Examples of landing pages you like

Questions about landing page

Does landing page need a licence in Ireland?

No licence is required for this work in Ireland (source: www.irishstatutebook.ie). Ask instead for references and photographs of similar jobs.

Why not just send ads to my home page?

A home page offers many choices, so visitors from an ad often leave without acting. A landing page repeats the ad’s message and asks for one action, which is easier to measure.

Do I need cookie consent for ad tracking?

Yes. Ad pixels and analytics are not strictly necessary, so under the ePrivacy Regulations and Data Protection Commission guidance they may be set only after the visitor consents.

Can I add enquirers to my newsletter?

Only if they agree to it. Add a separate, unticked box for marketing and keep a record of who agreed.
