App and software development
App developers in Ireland
App and software development: every service
- AI features and chatbotsAdding artificial intelligence to a website, app or internal process: a chatbot that answers from the business’s own documents, summarising or drafting text, classifying emails or extracting data from forms, usually by connecting to an AI model through an API.
- Bug fixingFinding and fixing faults in an existing website, web application or mobile app: errors, broken features, crashes, slow pages or things that stopped working after an update, often in code someone else wrote.
- Integrations and automationConnecting the software a business already uses, such as its website, shop, accounts package, CRM, email and spreadsheets, so data flows between them and repetitive tasks run on their own, using automation platforms or custom code against each system’s API.
- Mobile appDesigning and building an app for iPhone and Android phones, natively or with a cross-platform toolkit, together with the backend it talks to, and publishing it in the App Store and Google Play under the business’s own developer accounts.
- Web applicationBuilding custom software that runs in the browser: a booking system, customer portal, internal tool, dashboard or software product, with logins, a database and an admin area.
Hiring an app developer in Ireland
Apps and custom software are built in stages: a short discovery to pin down what it must do, a design or prototype, then development, testing and release. Most of it is done remotely, and the code should live in a repository the customer can reach.
If the software holds personal data, the developer who can reach it is usually a processor under data protection law, which expects a written contract between the two. Agree hosting, security, support and ownership of the code before work starts.
What the work usually involves
- Mobile apps for iPhone and Android
- Web applications: booking systems, portals and internal tools
- Connecting existing software so data flows between them
- Adding chatbots and other AI features
- Finding and fixing faults in an existing app or site
What to put in your task
- What the software should do, step by step, for whom
- What exists already: code, designs, accounts, the tools it must talk to
- Any personal data it will hold, and where
- Your deadline, and whether you need support after launch
What app developers cost, and why
What jobs on Talqero came to
Not enough comparable jobs yet to publish a range here. Talqero shows a price range only once at least five comparable jobs, agreed prices or offers exist — a range from fewer would describe a handful of jobs, not the market. Post your job and compare the offers you get.
What affects the price
- The number of features and screens, and how complex each one is
- Platforms: iPhone, Android, the web, or all three
- The systems it must connect to, and the data it will hold
- Testing, app store release and support after launch
- Whether the work is a fixed scope or paid by the stage
How long it usually takes
- A focused integration or fix: days to a few weeks.
- A new app or web application: usually several months, in stages.
What to ask before you choose
- Will you assign the copyright in what you make to me in writing, or give me a written licence — and for which uses?
- What will you hand over at the end: source files, code, logins and accounts, in my own name?
- Will you keep what I share with you confidential, and agree that in writing?
- Will the code be kept in a repository and accounts I control from the start?
- Will you sign a written data processing agreement if you can reach personal data?

Questions about hiring an app developer
How long does app and software development work take?
A focused integration or fix: days to a few weeks. A new app or web application: usually several months, in stages.
Will I own the code?
Only if it is assigned to you in writing: a contractor who writes code is its first owner unless agreed otherwise (Copyright and Related Rights Act 2000, ss. 23 and 120). Agree the assignment or licence before work starts, and that the code lives in a repository and accounts you control.
What about the personal data the app will hold?
If the developer can reach your customers’ data, data protection law expects a written processing contract between you (GDPR, Article 28). Ask how they handle data, access and backups.
Can I see what I am paying for as it is built?
Ask for the work in stages, each with something you can try and an agreed price, so you can stop or change course between them.
