Flooring and tiling: every service

Hiring a floor fitter in Ireland

Flooring and tiling are only as good as the surface underneath. Levelling, moisture checks and preparation take a large share of the time, especially with large-format tiles, wood over underfloor heating, or new screed that has to dry.

Wet rooms and showers need tanking under the tiles. Ask how the fitter waterproofs before they tile.

What the work usually involves

  • Wall and floor tiling
  • Wood, laminate and vinyl floors
  • Sanding and finishing floorboards
  • Carpet fitting and screeding

What to put in your task

  • Which rooms and roughly how many square metres
  • What is down now and whether it needs lifting
  • Whether you have bought the flooring or tiles
  • Photos of the floor and doorways

What floor fitters and tilers cost, and why

What jobs on Talqero came to

Not enough comparable jobs yet to publish a range here. Talqero shows a price range only once at least five comparable jobs, agreed prices or offers exist — a range from fewer would describe a handful of jobs, not the market. Post your job and compare the offers you get.

What affects the price

  • Area, and the number of doorways and cuts
  • Subfloor preparation: levelling, moisture, removing the old floor
  • Material and format: large or very small tiles, herringbone layouts
  • Underfloor heating compatibility
  • VAT: building work on a home is charged at the reduced rate of 13.5% by a VAT-registered business — unless the materials come to more than two-thirds of the price, when Revenue’s two-thirds rule applies the goods rate to the whole job. Ask whether a quote includes VAT.

How long it usually takes

  • Laminate or carpet in a room: a few hours to a day.
  • A bathroom tiled: two to five days.
  • Screed: laid in a day; drying takes weeks before a floor goes down.

What to ask before you choose

  • What preparation is included, and what if the subfloor needs levelling?
  • How will you waterproof the wet areas?
  • Who removes the old floor and the waste?
  • Is VAT included?
