Hiring a handyman in Ireland
A handyman takes the list of small jobs no single trade wants: flat-pack, shelves, TV brackets, sticking doors, silicone, curtain poles. Most price by the hour or half day, so a clear list with photographs gets the most accurate offers.
Some jobs on a list are not handyman work. A new socket or circuit is restricted electrical work and anything on a gas appliance needs a Registered Gas Installer — keep those in a separate task.
What the work usually involves
- Furniture assembly
- TV mounting and shelving
- Small repairs around the house
- Hanging pictures, mirrors and curtain poles
What to put in your task
- Every job on your list, so one visit covers them all
- What the walls are — brick, block or plasterboard
- Whether materials and fixings are already bought
- Photos of anything that needs fixing

What affects the price
- The length of the list, and whether materials are supplied
- Wall type and fixings for heavy items
- Travel and parking
How long it usually takes
- Most lists: a half day or a day.
What to ask before you choose
- Do you charge by the hour, the half day or the job?
- Do you bring fixings and materials?
