Gas boiler service: what the job involves
The annual service on a natural gas or LPG boiler by a Registered Gas Installer: cleaning and checking the burner, testing combustion and safety devices, and leaving a Declaration of Conformance. Landlords use it as their record that the boiler is safe.
How long it takes: Usually about an hour; longer for an older boiler, one that fails combustion checks, or when a part has to be fitted the same day.

What gas boiler service in Brownstown Cross Roads costs, and why
What jobs on Talqero came to
Not enough comparable jobs yet to publish a range here. Talqero shows a price range only once at least five comparable jobs, agreed prices or offers exist — a range from fewer would describe a handful of jobs, not the market. Post your job and compare the offers you get.
What affects the price
- Boiler type: combi, system or regular, and its age and make
- Natural gas or LPG
- Parts needed if the service finds a fault
- Additional appliances serviced at the same visit
- Winter demand and out-of-hours visits
- VAT: building work on a home is charged at the reduced rate of 13.5% by a VAT-registered business — unless the materials come to more than two-thirds of the price, when Revenue’s two-thirds rule applies the goods rate to the whole job. Ask whether a quote includes VAT.
County Kildare: what the figures say
37.0% of homes in County Kildare are heated by oil — below the national figure of 38.9%, the 25th highest of the 26 counties.
Where an oil boiler is replaced by a heat pump, SEAI’s heat pump grant includes €2,000 for removing it; until then, an oil boiler needs its annual service like any other.

Rules and grants for gas boiler service
The rules in Ireland
Only a Registered Gas Installer (RGI) may install, replace, repair or service a gas appliance or gas pipework, and they must leave you a Declaration of Conformance.
- The rule comes from the Energy (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 2006 and is run for the Commission for Regulation of Utilities by Safe Energy Ireland.
- For every gas job the RGI must complete a Declaration of Conformance certificate and give you the original copy straight away; it confirms the work meets I.S. 813.
- Every RGI carries a photo ID card numbered R followed by four digits, renewed each year. Check it on the register at rgi.ie.
- Oil boilers are not covered by a statutory register; ask for experience with your make of boiler and a combustion analysis printout after a service.
What to ask before you choose
- For gas: may I see your RGI card, and will you leave a Declaration of Conformance?
- What exactly does the service include — combustion analysis, nozzle, filters?
- Is the part in stock, and what is the warranty on it?
- For a heat pump: are you on SEAI’s contractor register, and who does the technical assessment?
- Is VAT included?
What the work usually involves
- Annual oil and gas boiler services
- Power flushing a sludged heating system
- New radiators, valves and thermostatic controls
- Diagnosing a boiler that will not fire
What to put in your task
- The fuel: oil, natural gas or LPG
- The make and rough age of the boiler, from its label
- What is happening — no heat, no hot water, noise, a leak
- When the boiler was last serviced, if you know
