Professional weed treatment: what the job involves
Controlling weeds in lawns, beds, driveways and paving with professional herbicides, applied by a DAFM-registered professional user — or by non-chemical means such as hot water or burning-off where that suits. It includes invasive plants such as Japanese knotweed, which need a multi-year plan.
How long it takes: A visit of an hour or two for most homes, with a return a few weeks later; Japanese knotweed takes several seasons of treatment.

What professional weed treatment in Donegal costs, and why
What jobs on Talqero came to
Not enough comparable jobs yet to publish a range here. Talqero shows a price range only once at least five comparable jobs, agreed prices or offers exist — a range from fewer would describe a handful of jobs, not the market. Post your job and compare the offers you get.
What affects the price
- Area and surface: lawn, beds, paving or gravel
- Type of weed — invasive species need specialist plans
- Chemical or non-chemical method
- Number of visits and follow-ups
- Removal of dead growth or soil
- VAT: building work on a home is charged at the reduced rate of 13.5% by a VAT-registered business — unless the materials come to more than two-thirds of the price, when Revenue’s two-thirds rule applies the goods rate to the whole job. Ask whether a quote includes VAT.
County Donegal: what the figures say
County Donegal has 61,575 households and 3,164 active construction businesses (2023) — about 19 homes for every firm, against about 23 across Ireland. The figure covers construction as a whole, not any one trade.

Rules and grants for professional weed treatment
The rules in Ireland
Whoever takes green waste, soil or old paving away must hold a waste collection permit.
- Anybody who takes your waste away must hold a waste collection permit. Handing waste to an unpermitted collector is an offence for the householder, with a fine of up to €5,000 — ask for the permit number, which collectors must show on vehicles and receipts.

County Donegal in figures
Construction as a whole. The CSO does not publish enterprise counts per trade at county level, so this figure is not a count of any one trade.
