Patio and sliding doors: what the job involves
Fitting or repairing patio, French, sliding or bifold doors to the garden. Replacing doors in the same opening is a window-fitter’s job; making the opening wider is building work with a new lintel and often an engineer’s input.
How long it takes: A day to fit doors in the existing opening once made; widening the opening adds several days of building work before the fitting.

What jobs on Talqero came to
Not enough comparable jobs yet to publish a range here. Talqero shows a price range only once at least five comparable jobs, agreed prices or offers exist — a range from fewer would describe a handful of jobs, not the market. Post your job and compare the offers you get.
What affects the price
- Type: French, sliding or bifold, and the number of panels
- Material: aluminium, uPVC or timber, and the frame colour
- Overall width and glass specification
- Widening the opening: lintel or steel, engineer and builder
- Threshold and floor levels inside and out
- VAT: supply-and-fit windows and doors are usually charged at the reduced 13.5% building-services rate, but if the materials are more than two-thirds of the price Revenue’s two-thirds rule applies the standard rate to the whole job
- VAT: building work on a home is charged at the reduced rate of 13.5% by a VAT-registered business — unless the materials come to more than two-thirds of the price, when Revenue’s two-thirds rule applies the goods rate to the whole job. Ask whether a quote includes VAT.

County Dublin: what the figures say
47.9% of households in County Dublin live in homes built before 1981 — above the national figure of 40.7%, and the 1st highest share of the 26 counties.
Many homes of that age are on their first or second set of replacement windows, and window upgrades can be grant-aided through SEAI.

Rules and grants for patio and sliding doors
Grants
SEAI lists grants of up to €4,000 for windows and up to €1,600 for doors as part of its home energy upgrade grants.
- Check eligibility on SEAI’s grant pages before ordering: grants apply to specific schemes and house ages.
- Use a contractor on SEAI’s register and get grant approval before any work starts — work begun before approval is not grant-aided.
- The grant must be drawn down within eight months of the offer, and a BER by a registered assessor after the works is required (SEAI contributes €50 towards it).
