Grant-aided insulation must be done by a contractor on SEAI’s register, after grant approval, with a BER afterwards.

Use a contractor on SEAI’s register and get grant approval before any work starts — work begun before approval is not grant-aided.
The grant must be drawn down within eight months of the offer, and a BER by a registered assessor after the works is required (SEAI contributes €50 towards it).
Since 27 July 2026, external wall insulation of up to 15 cm is exempt from planning permission.
