What alarm and CCTV installers in Bundoran cost, and why

What jobs on Talqero came to

Not enough comparable jobs yet to publish a range here. Talqero shows a price range only once at least five comparable jobs, agreed prices or offers exist — a range from fewer would describe a handful of jobs, not the market. Post your job and compare the offers you get.

What affects the price

  • Wired or wireless, and the brand of system
  • Number of detectors, cameras or doors
  • Monitoring contracts and their ongoing fees
  • Cable runs through walls and attics
  • VAT: building work on a home is charged at the reduced rate of 13.5% by a VAT-registered business — unless the materials come to more than two-thirds of the price, when Revenue’s two-thirds rule applies the goods rate to the whole job. Ask whether a quote includes VAT.

Rules and grants for security and smart home work

The rules in Ireland

Installers of intruder alarms, CCTV and access control must hold a Private Security Authority licence for each sector they work in.

  • Licences are issued per sector — Access Control, CCTV, Intruder Alarm — and last two years; the PSA register shows each contractor’s sectors and expiry dates.
  • Under section 38 of the Private Security Services Act 2004 it is an offence to engage an unlicensed contractor for a licensable security service (up to €3,000 and/or 12 months on summary conviction); being shown the licence is a defence, so ask to see it.

Grants

Smart heating controls can be grant-aided: SEAI’s heating controls grant is €700 for homes built and occupied before 2011.

  • The controls grant cannot be combined with a heat pump grant.
  • Use a contractor on SEAI’s register and get grant approval before any work starts — work begun before approval is not grant-aided.
  • The grant must be drawn down within eight months of the offer, and a BER by a registered assessor after the works is required (SEAI contributes €50 towards it).

How long it usually takes

  • A video doorbell: one to three hours.
  • An alarm or four-camera CCTV system: half a day to a day.

What to ask before you choose

  • What is your PSA licence number, and does it cover this sector?
  • Is monitoring included, and what does it cost after the first year?
  • Who owns the recordings, and where are they stored?
  • Is VAT included?

Questions about hiring an alarm installer

Do alarm installers need a licence?

Businesses installing intruder alarms, CCTV and access control must hold a Private Security Authority licence for that sector, and engaging an unlicensed one is itself an offence. Ask for the PSA licence number and check it on the register at psa-gov.ie.

Can cameras point at a neighbour’s property?

Domestic CCTV that films beyond your own property raises data-protection questions. Ask the installer to aim cameras at your own property only.

Can I supply my own equipment?

Yes. Say so in your task so offers are for fitting only.
